Are You a Hero?

Do you know what a hero is? Most people view a hero as someone who saves another person's life. You don’t need to run into a burning building in order to be called a hero. It’s commendable to do such a thing, however did you know a hero can also be someone who lifts another person's heart? A hero is someone who shows kindness when kindness is needed. A hero is the right response when someone needs to get a question right. A hero is a person who shares their magick with the world.

When you use the magick within you to help another person, you become a hero. What does it mean if you’re not sharing your heart with others? If a hero shares their heart then the opposite of being a hero is being the villain. A villain is viewed as someone who is cruel, cold-hearted and mean. It’s always the villain who wants to destroy the world and everything in it so they can have it all to themselves.

Are you the villain?

You might view yourself as the hero, however there’s a good chance other people may view you otherwise. How to determine if you’re the hero or the villain can be explained in the example below. The example shows what a hero looks like and how the villain is made.

Let’s take a look at a young woman named Estelle. Estelle has a warm heart and gives to others from a place of compassion. Estelle went through a difficult time in her life, so she knows what it’s like to struggle. One morning while heading into a coffee shop, Estelle notices a person sitting outside the front door. It’s a beggar. He asks Estelle for some spare change. Instead of giving him money, Estelle offers to buy him a coffee. The beggar happily agrees. When Estelle hands him the coffee, the beggar thanks her and wishes her a good day.

Estelle walks away feeling good about helping someone less fortunate. To the beggar, Estelle has become his hero for the day. The very next day, Estelle stops at the coffee shop to see the beggar sitting in the same space he was in the day before. Once again he asks her for change. Instead of feeling compassion towards him, Estelle feels disturbed. She doesn’t want to give him any change, nor buy him another coffee because she doesn't want him to become dependent on her. Estelle smiles and politely tells him, “Sorry, not today.”

While exiting the coffee shop, Estelle notices the beggar still sitting by the door. She says, “Have a nice day.” Instead of repeating back to her the kind gesture, the beggar mumbles something derogatory under his breath towards her.

Estelle walks away feeling hurt. She’s hurt because the day before she was considered a hero in the beggar's eyes. Today she’s turned into the villain. This occurred because Estelle set up a boundary by not buying the beggar another coffee or giving him some change. Estelle feels hurt because the kind gesture she made for a stranger has now painted her out of being a hero to being the villain in the beggar's eyes.

Can you see how fine the line is between being a hero and becoming the villain? This line can be crossed all the time throughout your day. One moment you can be viewed as a hero when you help someone out and the next you’re viewed as the villain when you don’t. You can also be viewed as the villain even while you’re helping someone, too. This occurs when the person you’re assisting doesn’t appreciate your effort. Just as, you can be considered a hero when you’re being the villain, too.

How you’re viewed depends on the individual person's opinion of you. What’s more important is how you view yourself. Magick wants you to understand you can’t always be the hero even when you feel you’re doing right by others. No matter what you do in life, there’ll always be someone who is going to view you as the villain in theirs. There's people from your past who remember a version of you that may no longer exist. Even if you could go back, you can’t convince anyone to change their mind about the version of you that they once knew.

You must accept that it’s okay to be the hero and it’s okay to be the villain in other people’s stories about you. Magick wants you to recognize you’re not meant to be the hero all of the time. Just because Estelle had the means to buy the beggar a coffee, she knew it wasn’t healthy for her to continue to do so. The beggar has to learn not to depend on strangers to provide for all their needs. If you ever find yourself in such a situation, just ask magick for help, for magick is the provider for everyone on earth.

If Estelle bought a coffee for the beggar every day, where would her assistance end? She could give the beggar all of her possessions and he’d still call her a villain for her not giving him more. Magick wants you to know that it’s okay to not always give to others when it doesn’t feel right for you to do. It’s okay to be the villain in someone else’s story to do what feels right for you.

FYI: Magick is equally available to all who call upon magick for help. The beggar on the street can easily ask magick for help, too. There’s no limit in what magick can provide. The more you appreciate magick’s assistance, the more assistance you’ll receive.

Estelle had to set a boundary with the beggar. She didn’t like being made to be the villain, however she had to take a stand. By showing the beggar she wouldn’t be used, the beggar learned she couldn’t be used. Being a hero means leading the way for yourself even if that means being the villain too. It takes courage to stand up for yourself and say no when it feels right. If you’re not sure you can speak up for yourself, ask magick for the strength to do so. Magick will give you the confidence to be the hero or be the villain as often as you need to be.

It’s important for heroes to be unbothered by what other people think of them. If Estelle worried what the beggar thought of her, she’d probably be begging in his place too. For the beggar would’ve taken everything she had by holding power over her. If Estelle worried what the beggar thought of her, she would give him full control over her life. A hero must be powerless to no one. The strength of a hero comes from within. When someone wants to paint you out to be the villain in their life, they're trying to destroy the hero within you. If one person holds the power to destroy you, then you won’t ever win.

You can be a hero and you can be the villain and that’s okay.
